Coupe de France: Final is Nantes – Montpellier! Defending champions Tours and Poitiers eliminated

2 min read

In an exciting epilogue of 2023/24 edition of Coupe de France, Nantes will face Montpellier in Final of the event scheduled, for second year in a row, in Paris on Easterd Day, March 31, 2024.
In a game played on a very high level, Nantes eliminated defendong champions Tours with a clear 3-0, partially 25:23, 25:15 and 25:19.
After a very balanced start in the first set, the guests attempted the
escape at 13-16, but then they suffered the comeback of the hosts, led by a fiery home crowd, in a Trocadière sold out with almost 5000 volleyball enthusiasts. And, in fact, this was the only moment in which Tours had an advantage, because then the rivals were able to lead the game from start to finish, led by top scorer and MVP Chizoba Neves Atu, who close the game with 16 points to his name through 38% in attack but with also 3 winning blocks and 3 aces and Mathis Henno, who added 13 through 62% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block. Double digit also for Tomas Lopez (10 points with 53% in attack), while for Tours, who struggled a lot in attack and reception, Aboubacar Drame Neto and Märt Tammearu were the most prolific players with 13 and 10 points in attack, but with only 36% and 39% efficiency, respectively.
Definitely not a good moment for Poitiers in this competition, who misses the opportunity to play in the final for the second consecutive year. Defeated last year by Nice after an exciting match that ended at tie break, this year they had to surrender, again in front of his own fans, to Montpellier, who won the game with the score of 1-3 (19:25, 25:19, 21:25, 21:25).
Led by setter Raphael Corre, named MVP of the match and able to send three of his players in double digit (Dimitar Dimitrov with 19 points to his name through 57% in attack and 3 winning blocks, Nicolas Le Goff with 13, 1 block and impressive 86% in attack, and Luka Marttila who added 11), the winners were slightly better in attack (49% to 46%), solid in reception and in blocking (8 to 5), despite the hosts’ efforts, led in score by Alexandros Raptis, top scorer of the game with 20 points with 2 aces and 53% in attack.
Metin Toy added 17 points, but they weren’t enough.
