2 min read

After Games 1 of best-of-five series played a week ago, all 2023/24 Marmara Spike League quarterfinals are now 2-0!
The day started with a four sets win, just like in Game 1, of No.3 in regular season Tourcoing over No.6 Toulouse, 3-1 (25:22, 25:22, 20:25, 25:22). The hosts made the difference above all in blocking, scoring 13 points from this element compared to the rivals’6, 5 only from top scorer Pablo Koukartsev, who left the court with 18 points to his name, 1 ace but only 32% in attack with 5 errors and blocked 3 times. MVP of the game Italian middle blocker Giovanni Maria Gargiulo, who also contributed with 13 points through 77% in attack and 3 winning blocks.
Julien Winkelmuller, the most prolific player of the game, scored 19 points through 59% in attack for Toulouse including 2 winning blocks.
Defending champions Tours, No.4 in final standings, after struggling a lot in Game 1 closed only at tie break, today defeated No.5 and Coupe de France finalist Montpellier by 3-1 (25:22, 25:21, 23:25, 25:23) after 2 hours and 3 minutes of play and in front of almost 3000 home fans, led in score by an excellent Märt Tammearu, absolute top scorer of the game with 28 points through 65% in attack including 2 aces and 2 blocks, and MVP Aboubacar Drame Neto, who added 23 through 61% in attack 1 block and 2 aces.
Four sets win also for regular season leaders Chaumont over No.8 Paris, 3-1 (25:21, 25:20, 18:25, 29:27), despite 31 points of Japanese Kento Miyaura (55% in attack, 1 ace and 8 of his team 9 aces).
Another defeat, on the other hand, for second-placed and Coupe de France winners Nantes Rezé, defeated again by Saint Nazaire this time in just three sets (22:25, 21:25, 23:25) despite more than 3000 home fans.
Saturday all Games 3!
