VNL 2024: another win for Slovenia. Canada, Iran, USA, Argentina and Italy ok

Third week of 2024 Volleyball Nations League continues in The Philippines and Slovenia.
In a thrilling encounter at Ljubljana’s Arena Stožice, Pool 5 hosts Slovenia beat Cuba 2-3 (22:25, 25:20, 21:25, 31:29, 8:15).
Both teams alternated wins in the first four sets, with Slovenia taking the lead twice, and then Cuba equalized each time.
Slovenia missed some crucial set points in the fourth set, and the match went only into a decisive fifth set, where the home team prevailed in a clear 15-8.
Five Slovenian players reached a double digits: Tonček Štern with 19 points, Klemen Čebulj who added 17, Jan Kozamernik 14, and Alen Pajenk and Tine Urnaut, both scoring 11. Marlon Yant Herrera was Cuba’s top scorer with 20 points.
On the same points, both winners collected a straight sets win: Argentina, who destroyed Türkiye with a clear 0-3 (17:25, 18:25, 20:25), and Italy, who struggled only in first sets against Bulgaria, 0-3 (25:27, 20:25, 21:25) too.
Straight sets win also for Canada over Germany in Manila, The Philippines, 0-3 (19:25, 18:25, 21:25), while the other two ended at tie break: Iran down The Netherlands 3-2 (25:22, 22:25, 25:21, 20:25, 15:10), while modest USA beat modest Brazil with the score of 2-3 (21:25, 25:18, 21:25, 25:22, 9:15).
