Paris 2024: USA down Italy in straight sets to secure a well-deserved bronze medal!

2 min read

In a thrilling encounter at the South Paris Arena 1, the United States secured the bronze medal in men’s volleyball Olympic tournament by defeating Italy in just three sets, partially 25-23, 30-28 and 26-24.
Both teams, having suffered tough semifinal defeats, against Poland and France, respectively, displayed renewed spirit, but it was the Americans who excelled in crucial moments to secure a well-deserved third place.
The match was marked by standout performances from several U.S. players, including Aaron Russell, who led the score with 15 points, TJ Defalco and Max Holt, who also contributed with 12 and 11 points respectively.
This victory allowed seven American players to add a second Olympic medal to their collection, having also competed in Rio 2016!
The Paris Games also signified a potential end of an era for today’s winners, who fielded several veteran players, including 39-year-old David Smith and 37-year-olds Matt Anderson and Max Holt, expected to retire from international competition.
On the losing side, Yuri RomanĂČ and Alessandro Michieletto each scored 17 points but could not avoid Italy from finishing at fourth place and without medals (but with another bad performance from the service line, today with as many as 18 errors from this element).
Tomorrow Poland will face France for the prestigious gold medal, starting from 13.00 (Local Time).
