3 min read
Round 1 of 2024/25 Russian Superliga, which featured 15 teams after the defection of Belarus’ side Shakhtyor, started on Wednesday, September 4, has been closed on Sunday.
With a day off of Lokomotiv Novosibirsk, we witnessed a great volleyball, above all in big match between Zenit Kazan and Belogorie who played an exciting and very balanced game, not by chance ended at tie-break, 2-3 (19:25, 25:22, 25:22, 19:25, 8:15).
Despite a hard-fought defeat, Belgorod proved to be able to compete also with Tatarstan giants despite the absence of Mohamed Al Hachdadi, injured, and Jingyin Zhang left to the bench by head coach Aleksandr Volkov.
On the other side of the net, also Maksim Mikhailov started from the bench, but then he closed the game with a great 67% in attack, 10/15, making the difference, together with Ilya Fiodorov, and Sam Deroo.
Not a good start for Kuzbass Kemerovo, defeated in four sets by a great Yenisey Krasnoyarsk, 1-3 (23:25, 25:23, 21:25, 15:25).
After two very balanced sets, the visiting side, led by Murashko and Bocharov, top scorers of the game with 20 points each, literally dominated the game.
Also Dinamo Moscow struggled more than expected on the field of Fakel Novyi Urengoy but, after losing first set, they managed to win the game taking advantage above all from the rivals’ errors, 1-3 (25:18, 18:25, 21:25, 18:25).
But there is another team from country’s capital, MGTU Moscow, who made his debut on Wednesday in Russian elite competition after as many as 20 years, but they were not able to steal a single set on the field most-quotes Gazprom-Yugra Surgut Region, despite they played a good game, 3-0 (27:25, 25:23, 25:22)
Straight sets win also for Zenit St. Petersburg, who literally destroyed Neftyanik Orenburg on the road, closing the game with an easy 0-3 (13:25, 18:25, 12:25), and for Dinamo-Ural, who made their debut with a very convincing home win over Nova Novokuybyshevsk (25:23, 25:19, 25:23).
Close the picture Dynamo LO, who struggled but eventually managed to defeat ASK N. Novgorod at tie break, 3-2 (25:20, 22:25, 25:21, 21:25, 15:12), despite an amazing performance from Pavel Zheleznyakov who, with his 27 points earned the title of top scorer of this Round 1.
