Russia: Round 2 is over! Zenit Saint Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow to the top

The second round of the Russian Men’s Volleyball Championship concluded today with five exciting matches. After the withdrawal of Belarusian team Shakhtior, 15 teams are participating in the Superliga.
Dynamo Ural had a day off.
Round 2 started on Wednesday with a thrilling game between Gazprom-Yugra Surgut and Neftyanik Orenburg, ended at tie break in favor of the home team, 3-2 (21:25, 25:14, 25:22, 12:25, 16:14), with 18 points from Vitaliy Papazov 18, while Ilya Spodobets, the most prolific player of the match, tallied 22 for Orenburg side.
Always on Wednesday, Kuzbass Kemerovo celebrated a 1-3 (16:25, 18:25, 25:21, 20:25) away win over newcomers MGTU Moscow, who made their debut in Russian elite competition after 20 years, despite 22 points from Nikolai Zubov.
To the top with two wins in as many games and 6 points Zenit Saint Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow.
The first one celebrated a 3-1 (29:27, 21:25, 25:18, 25:15) home win over ASK Nizhny Novgorod, led in score by Serbia National Team member Marko Ivovich 15, while the team from country’s capital, also on Thursday, down Dynamo LO with the same score, 3-1 (23:25, 25:21, 25:21, 25:18).
Behind them with 5 points in the standings Zenit Kazan who, after a tie break success in Round 1, managed to win in straight sets on the field of Yenisey Krasnoyarsk, 0-3 (20:25, 20:25, 23:25), with 10 points each from Dmitriy Volkov, Maksim Mikhailov and Artem Volvich.
Away win also for Zenit St. Petersburg, who celebrated a 1-3 (23:25, 25:23, 17:25, 23:25) on the field of Fakel Novyi Urengoy with 26 points from Uadzislau Babkevich, top scorer of Round 2, and Belogorie Belgorod who, after struggling in first set, won on the field of NOVA Novokuybyshevsk in straight sets (24:26, 21:25, 22:25) with 17 points from Pavel Tetyukhin 17.
