Italy: Round 2 has been completed – Milano, Perugia, Trento, Modena and Verona ok.

5 min read

After the advance played yesterday, in which Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza celebrated a straight sets win on the field of Vero Volley Monza in what was the second win in a row in as many games in 2024/25 season, Round 2 of Superlega CredemBanca has been completed today with the other five games.
The day started with Allianz Milano, who succumbed to Taranto in first round, who made their home debut against Cucine Lube Civitanova.
The hosts redeemed themselves with an amazing straight sets victory against a pretty disappointing rival, still without Aleksandar Nikolov, on the bench and almost ready to back to the court after a long back injury.
Partially it was 25:20, 25:18 and 25:22, and this was a very positive result in a very sad day at Powervolley’s home due the death of Miss Margherita, mother of Lucio and Ivano Fusaro, president and vice-president of today’s winners. Also Volleytimes teams’ deepest sympathies are with all of you.
MVP and top scorer of the game a great Ferre Reggers, who left the court with 18 points to his name through 64% in attack, 3 aces and 1 winning block, followed by a very good Matey Kaziyski who added 12.
On the other side of the net Mattia Bottolo was the only player who reached a double digit, scoring 11 points, while middle blocker Giovanni Gargiulo and Petar Dirlic played a very good game, even if they weren’t enough to snatch at least one set. The first one scored 9 points through 82% in attack, while opposite from Croatia, in Milano last season, entered during the game and delivered 6 points through 55% in attack.

On the other hand, Gioiella Prisma Taranto, after a stunning performance in first round against Milano, suffered the play of Itas Trentino, succumbing with a clean 3-0 (25:13, 25:18, 26:24) on the field of the rivals.
The hosts, who recovered Kamil Rychliki who suffered an ankle injury in Del Monte Supercoppa, at Palazzo Wanny in Florence, dominated first two sets and then were able to control Taranto’s reaction in third one, closed overtime with the minimum gap.
MVP of the game Brazilian middle-blocker Flavio, who left the court with 11 points to his name through 67% in attack and 3 of his team’s 11 winning blocks, well supported by Alessandro Michieletto, best scorer with 17 points through 50%, and Gabi Garcia, who added 12 through 59%.
Straight sets win also for Valsa Group Modena over newcomers Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina, 3-0 (25:16, 26:24, 25:14), in front of 3200 home fans at iconic PalaPanini, led by MVP Paul Buchegger, top scorer of the match with 17 points.
The other two games ended at tie break.
The day continued with a hard-fought win of one of the most favorite title contenders Sir Susa Vim Perugia on the field of Sonepar Padova. The game has been solved only at tie break, 2-3 (23:25, 25:23, 25:21, 24:26, 10:15)!
In seasonal debut at their Kioene Arena, Padova played a great game played at the same level of defending champions for almost all game, leading first set surrendering only in the end, taking the second one also with the minimum gap, and the third set too, starting bad in fourth one, but then performing a majestic comeback succumbing only overtime, 24-26, and then collapsing at tie break, but with an unexpected and very important point in their pockets.
Balance also in numbers, with 10 winning blocks for Padova, 11 for Perugia, 43% in attack for the hosts, 46% for the winners, 23 errors and 5 aces from the service line, to 26 errors and 6 aces (3 only for Herrera).
Top scorer of the match Veljko Masulovic, who left the court with 22 points to his name including 2 aces, 3 winning blocks and 50% in attack for Padova, while Yuki Ishikawa, the most prolific player among the winners, scored 16 points through 47% in attack including 1 winning blocks and MVP award, well supported by a great Agustin Loser who added 14 points through 67% in attack, mostly of them, however, only in first three sets.
Close the picture the tie break success of Rana Verona over Cisterna Volley, 3-2 (20:25, 25:18, 21:25, 25:14, 15:13).
