Challenge Cup: CV San Roque Las Palmas first 16th finalist and the others of today

Other 9 Games of 2024/25 CEV Challenge Cup 32nd finals were played today also with first verdict: CV San Roque Las Palmas is the first team to progess to the next stage of competition, after a double straight sets victory over BK Tromsø from Norway.
With both games played in Spain, at Las Palmas’ Polideportivo Municipal El Batán, after yesterday’s success, the hosts repeated themselves with another 0-3 (17:25, 19:25, 19:25) success after just 67 minutes of plays, outclassing the rivals in all elements with 9 (to 1) aces, 54% of team performance in attack (to 38%), 6 kill blocks (to 4) and 56% positive reception (to 35%).
Erick Gustavo Costa led the winners with 10 points, while Petter Østvik was the most prolific player of the match scoring 12 points for Tromsø.
Four teams won their respective first leg matches in straight sets, taking first step towards 16th finals.
All easy for VK Karlovarsko from Czech Republic, who won in Croatia, on the field of MOK Mursa Osijek with the score of 0-3 (15:25, 18:25, 22:25), with 61% of team performance in attack, 16 points from top scorer Renars Janson (2 aces and an impressive 70% in attack) and 15 from Filip Sestan.
Something similar happened in Estonia, at Sports Hall Pärnu, where the visiting side Epicentr – Podolyany Horodok from Ukraine celebrated an away success over the hosts Pärnu VK with the same result, 0-3 (24:26, 22:25, 20:25), struggling only in first set with as many as 13 winning blocks in just three sets!
Straight sets win also for Bulgaria’s Neftohimik Burgas over A.O.P. Kifissia Athens from Greece, 3-0 (25:18, 25:17, 25:19), and for fellow countrymen Panathinaikos Athens, who trampled over Switzerland’s Chênois Geneve by 3-0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:20) too, led in score by Rasmus Nielsen, top scorer of tue game with 16 points with 1 ace, 1 block and 67% in attack.
The sensation of the day, however, came from Turkey, where Arkas Izmir, who recently announced that this is their last season in Elfeler Ligi, Turkey’s elite competition, suffered a heavy defeat against Finland’s Akaa Volley, 1-3 (25:23, 21:25, 20:25, 18:25).
Four sets win also for Slovakia’s Rieker UJS Komárno over VC Stroossen from Luxembourg, 3-1 (25:21, 25:22, 27:29, 25:20), with 23 points from bomber Peter Mlynarcik (1 ace, 1 block and 62% in attack), and for Portugal’s Sporting CP Lisboa, against SCM Zalau from Romania, 3-1 (22:25, 25:22, 25:19, 25:22), with 19 points from Edson Valencia Gonzalez and 13 winning blocks.
Close the picture Hungary’s MÁV Foxconn Székesfehérvár, who prevail in Croatia, on the field of OK Medimurje Centrometal, after five intense sets, 2-3 (25:16, 22:25, 23:25, 25:22, 11:15).
Ivan Raic scored 23 points for the hosts, while Marcell Pesti led the winners with 20.
