Russia: all results of Round 14 – Zenit Kazan again to the top, Zenit St. Petersburg clinched a thrilling win over MGTU Moscow

Midweek Round 14 of 2024/25 Russian Superleague has been completed today with last three scheduled games.
Neftyanik Orenburg down ASK Nizhny Novgorod 3-0 (25:21, 25:19, 25:23), and the same did Dynamo-LO, who defeated NOVA Novokuybyshevsk with the same score (25:22, 27:25, 25:21), while Dynamo Ural needed five sets to prevail over Kuzbass Kemerovo, 3-2 (20:25, 25:21, 21:25, 25:19, 15:13).
This Round started on Tuesday, with and last-placed MGTU Moscow very close to complete an epic comeback over super favorite Zenit St.Petersburg. After being down 0-2, in fact, the newcomers were able to level the score until 2-2, but eventually succumbing with the score of 2-3 (12:25, 19:25, 25:23, 25:23, 12:15). The visiting side started strong, showcasing a dominant performance in the first two sets. With powerful serves by Igor Tisevich and Marlon Yant, they quickly established control, sealing the first set at 25-12. The second set saw the team from country’s capital attempt to level the playing field, but Zenit maintained their momentum, winning 25-19.
MGTU Moscow, however, rallied in the third set. Leonid Shchadilov and Saveliy Pozdnyakov spearheaded the comeback with decisive attacks, narrowing the gap. Their determination paid off as MGTU edged out Zenit 25-23 in both the third and fourth sets, sending the game into a decisive fifth set.
In the final set, Zenit regained their composure and, with a strong serving streak from Tisevich and great plays from Egor Kliuka, they managed to secure a 15-12 victory, wrapping up the match in dramatic fashion.
Zenitâs coach Vladimir Alekno praised his teamâs resilience, emphasizing the importance of securing the win despite the challenges. âItâs good that we won. These games test character,â he said.
MGTUâs coach Yuri Nechushkin lauded his teamâs fighting spirit, highlighting their ability to push a strong opponent to the brink. âThe guys showed potential and played excellent volleyball,â he added.
To the top of the standings with 35
points Zenit Kazan, who won on the field of Lokomotiv Novosibirsk with the score of 1-3 (25:20, 12:25, 25:27, 18:25), followed by Belogorie Belgorod with 33, who destroyed Yenisey Krasnoyarsk 3-0 (25:21, 25:20, 25:17).
Straight sets win also for Dynamo Moscow over Gazprom-Yugra Surgut, 3-0 (25:18, 25:23, 25:19).
