Poland: predictions respected in last games of 2024 – 3 points for Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Jastrzębski Węgiel

Monday’s PlusLiga action, as well as last games of 2024, both valid for Round 18 or, if you prefer, Round 3 of second leg, didn’t disappoint! Titleholders and current leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel swept last-placed GKS Katowice 3-0 (25:23, 28:26, 25;16), but it wasn’t easy, as the underdogs gave the reigning champions a real fight in the first two sets before Jastrzębski showed why they’re the best in Poland. MVP
Thimotée Carle led the charge with 14 points to his name through 61% in attack, 2 blocks and 1 ace, well supported by Tomasz Fornal who added 12, and Lukasz Kaczmarek also contributed with 10.
For GKS Katowice, Bartosz Gomułka and Aymen Bouguerra scored 9 points (88% in attack for the first one), followed by Bartlomiej Krulicki and Lukasz Usowicz with 8 in a desperate effort.
On the other game, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie ended a year with a bang, beating Asseco Resovia Rzeszów 3-1 (22:25, 25:19, 26:24, 25:21), with Karol Butryn who stole the show with 21 points to his name through 66% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block, while MVP Bartosz Kwolek with 16 (74% in attack and 2 blocks) and Aaron Russell with 14 (50% in attack with 2 aces and 1 block) were decisive too.
Jakub Bucki scored 20 points on the losing side, supported by Klemen Cebulj (16) and Lukas Vasina (14), but they were not enough.
Round 18 will close on Thursday, February 27, with the clash between ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, while Plusliga will
continue on Friday with the advance of Round 19 between Steam Hemarpol Norwid Częstochowa and PSG Stal Nysa.
