8th Finals of 2024/25 Coupe de France were played today, featuring almost only away successes!
The only team who earned quarterfinals ticket in front of their home fans was French defending Champions Saint Nazaire, who down Narbonne after a thrilling tie break, 3-2 (30:32, 25:23, 19:25, 25:16, 15:11), with 24 points from top scorer Titouan Halle (57% in attack and 3 blocks).
In another clash between two Marmara Spike League sides, Montpellier won on the field of Cannes with the score of 0-3 (23:25, 19:25, 23:25), with a very good performance of setter Raphael Corre who, in addition to 3 personal points, all in blocking, was able to send four of his players in double digit: Dimitar Dimitrov, top scorer of the match with 14 points, closely followed by Ezequiel Palacios, who added 13, Nicolas Le Goff and Tomas Lopez, with 11 each. Without starting libero Ryohei Iga, who recently said good bye to the team, and also facing a bad day of bomber Reda Haikal, who left the court with only 8 points through 40% in attack, Marco Pierotti and Omar Biglino were the most prolific players for Cannes.
Straight sets wins also for regular season current leaders Tourcoing, who literally destroyed Paris, 0-3 (22:25, 20:25, 13:25) with 14 points from Pablo Koukartsev, and for Toulouse, who eliminated Plessis Robinson after a thrilling first set lasted 39 minutes, 0-3 (32:34, 22:25, 20:25)! To make the difference above all the winners’ performance in blocking, scoring 13 points from this element compared to the hosts’ 6.
All easy for Tours, who trampled over Ligue B side Frejus with the same result, 0-3 (20:25, 16:25, 21:25), with 16 points from top scorer Ryan Sclater (52% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 1 ace), while Poitiers needed four sets and 1 hours and 37 minutes of intense play to prevail over Royan, 1-3 (25:22, 15:25, 15:25, 18:25), showing a better team performance in attack (57% to 44%), as well as 20 points from a great Byam (56% in attack with 3 blocks and 2 aces).
Chaumont struggled more than expected on the field of Ajaccio, winning a game ended after a thrilling 2-3 (23:25, 25:22, 25:18, 21:25, 13:15) and almost two hours of play. Mathis Henno scored 26 points for the winners, with 2 aces, 2 blocks and 58% in attack, in front of 1000 home fans at Ajaccio’s Palatinu.
The last team who progressed to quarterfinals is Saint Jean d’Illac, who won on the field of Saint Quentin, 1-3 (16:25, 23:25, 27:25, 20:25), in Ligue B derby.
