Italy: Piacenza down Padova in never ending advance of Round 16

Round 16 of 2024/25 Superlega Credem Banca or, if you prefer, Round 5 of second leg, started today with the advance between Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Sonepar Padova, won by the home team after 146 minutes of play, 3-2 (15:25, 25:23, 25:20, 32:34, 15:13).
Piacenza needed one set and a half to start to play against a very combative rivals who, in key moments of fourth set, were able to cancel 9 match balls!
On the other hand Piacenza, after a disastrous start, reacted from second set above all in attack mostly thanks to Uros Kovacevic and Romanò. Young Libero Luca Loreti was awarded MVP of a match in which 4 players reached a double digit: Gianluca Galassi, top scorer of the match together with Padova’s Marko Sedlacek, left the court with 18 points to his name, closely followed by Yuri Romanò and Efe Mandiraci, who added 17 each, while Uros Kovacevic also contributed with 14.
Round 16 will close tomorrow with other 5 games: the day started with last-placed Vero Volley Monza who will welcome Valsa Group Modena, then leaders and defending champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia will face second-placed Itas Trentino in big match of the day, meanwhile Rana Verona will welcome Allianz Milano, Cisterna Volley will face Cucine Lube Civitanova, while Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina will welcome Gioiella Prisma Taranto in a very important clash to stay in Superlega.
