Italy: Round 16 is over – first defeat for Perugia! Modena, Verona and Civitanova ok. Grottazzolina win a direct clash vs. Taranto

MVP Bela Bartha shone for the winners 17 points, including 3 blocks, 1 ace and a 68% attack efficiency, while Alessandro Michieletto led the charge with 22 points.
Perugia, who suffered their first seasonal defeat, was powered by Oleh Plotnytskyi who scored 17 points too, but the winners excelled in blocking (16-12) and attack efficiency (44% to 41%).
Despite Perugia’s 8 aces, their 24 service errors, almost a set, proved costly.
In first game played today, Valsa Group Modena celebrated a dominant win 0-3 (21:25, 24:26 and 17:25) over last-placed Vero Volley Monza, led by Vlad Davyskiba’s 19 points.
Among the hosts, top scorer Arthur Szwarc with 11 points, and double digit also for Osmany Juantorena who added 10.
3 points and away win also for Allianz Milano on the field of Rana Verona, 1-3 (21:25, 25:21, 17:25, 20:25) in a direct clash for better place for playoffs, led by and once again decisive Ferre Reggers, able to put down 22 points including 3 aces, 3 blocks and MVP award. Noumory Keita tallied 20 points for the hosts.
Predictions respected also in the clash between Cisterna Volley and Cucine Lube Civitanova, ended with the score of 0-3 (23:25, 20:25, 17:25) in favor of the visiting side, led by MVP Aleksandar Nikolov, author of 14 points, top scorer Adis Lagumdzija, who added 15, and Mattia Bottolo, who also contributed with 13. Among the hosts, Theo Faure was the only one in double digit with 10 points.
Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina continued their victorious run in second leg winning 3-2 (25:23, 25:22, 23:25, 20:25, 22:20) the direct clash to stay in Superlega against Gioiella Prisma Taranto.
In a game with lot of ups and downs in both sides, the hosts claimed a 2-0 lead, the suffered the rivals’ comeback to eventually prevail in an epic fifth set.
Epic also the clash between Gabrijel Cvanciger (MVP and top scorer with 26 points), on the field again in place of Petkovic, and Fabrizio Gironi, with 24, who put down the ball of 8-10 in decisive fifth set from the second line. Then an error in attack from Cvanciger that is worth the 11-13, but Grottazzolina never dies and level the score 14-14. After a never ending actions, Tsimafei Zhukouski’s block close set and game 22-20, with 2 very important points to stay in Superega.
