CEV Cup: Trento take first step towards semifinals. Chaumont defeated in four sets

Quarterfinals of 2024/24 CEV Cup started today with the 1-3 (25:23, 21:25, 17:25, 19:25) away win of Italian powerhouse Trentino Itas on the field of France’s Chaumont VB 52.
After winning first set the hosts, third in Champions League Pool E, literally collapsed under the play of Trento, who overpowered them above all in blocking, scoring 12 points from this element (to only 2).
The match started with Chaumont taking the first set 25-23, thanks to a strong performance from Jacob Pasteur (14 points) and Lukas Maase (8 points). However, Trento quickly turned the tide, showing their dominance also in attack and defense.
MVP Daniele Lavia, who left the court with 14 points at the end of the match along with Alessandro Michieletto, who added 13 and Flavio Gualberto with 12 led the charge as Trento leveled the match with a 25-21 win in the second set.
From there, the Italian side took full control of the game: a dominant 25-17 third-set win put them ahead, and they closed the match in the fourth set (25-19), securing a crucial away victory.
