Poland: Jastrzębski down Lublin in big match of Round 29! Victories also for Resovia and Barkom

The climax in 2024/25 PlusLiga is heating up as the regular season nears its end, with its penultimate round, Round 29 or Round 14 of second leg, that has been played this weekend.
Leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel locked in their place at the top of the table, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów staged a thrilling comeback against ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in a Plusliga classic while, in the evening, Barkom-Każany Lviv kept their survival hopes alive.
Jastrzębski Węgiel came out on top with a 3-1 (27:29, 25:21, 25:20, 25:23) home win over Bogdanka LUK Lublin, securing the regular season title. That means they’ll head into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed.
Tomasz Fornal with 15 points to his name, Łukasz Kaczmarek who added 13 and MVP Timothée Carle with 12 lef the charge, while Kewin Sasak scored 20 points on the other side of the net, while Wilfredo Leon added 16.
Meanwhile, Asseco Resovia Rzeszów pulled off an incredible comeback against ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle, winning 2-3 (29:27, 29:27, 18:25, 23:25, 9:15) after dropping the first two sets!
Igor Grobelny and Bartosz Kurek scored 22 and 19 points fot the hosts, while MVP Stephen Boyer scored as many as 39 points for the winners through an impressive 65% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block. Behind him Lukas Vasina with 14 points to his name.
ZAKSA started strong, winning the first two sets in dramatic fashion (29:27, 29:27), but Resovia refused to back down and, led by an unstoppable Boyer, they turned the game around and secured the win, extending their impressive winning streak.
In the evening, the battle to avoid relegation is going down to the wire, as Barkom-Każany Lwów secured a 1-3 (25:23, 19:25, 18:25, 18:25) crucial victory over Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin, keeping their hopes alive, with 21 points from MVP Märt Tammearu, well supported by Ilia Kowalow’s 19.
With GKS Katowice and MKS Będzin already relegated, the last remaining spot in PlusLiga for next season is still up for grabs, and it all comes down to a decisive match between Barkom and PSG Stal Nysa on March 20. Barkom must win in straight sets to leapfrog their rivals in the standings and avoid the drop.
And now, with just one round left in the regular season, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The playoff picture is almost set, and the relegation battle will be decided in a do-or-die match between Barkom and Stal Nysa.
Round 29 will close tomorrow with the clash between PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów and PGE Projekt Warszawa.
