Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie continues its historic run in 2024/25 CEV Champions League, securing a spot in the Final Four after a dominant 3-1 home victory (25:19, 25:19, 23:25, 25:20) over SVG Lüneburg in the quarterfinals’ second leg.
Having already won the first leg in Germany in straight sets , the Polish vice-champions needed just two sets to advance, but they didn’t stop there as, led by top scorer Bartosz Kwolek, who left the court with 20 points to his name through 59% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, and Jurij Gladyr’s powerful serves, with his 7 of his team’s 14 aces, they took control early, claiming the first two sets with ease.
A few lineup changes in the third set allowed Lüneburg to take a consolation win, but the hosts quickly bounced back in the fourth to close the match without major problems.
With this victory, Aluron officially advances to the Champions League Final Four, where they’ll battle for the biggest title in European volleyball.
Setter Miguel Tavares was named MVP of the match.
The CEV Champions League Men quarter-finals are heating up, with the second leg set to decide the Final Four teams heading to Łódź, Poland, scheduled on May 16-18.
The final battles continue tomorrow with two more matchups and wrap up on March 20 in Perugia, where Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will face Mint Vero Volley Monza, in all-italian clash.
In their opening match, Greek club Olympiacos Piraeus staged a stunning comeback against Polish powerhouse Jastrzębski Węgiel, rallying from two sets down to secure a 3-2 victory.
But they still have a tough challenge ahead, as the Polish Champions has lost just once at home in the last 14 matches!
Turkish powerhouse Halkbank Ankara dominated PGE Projekt Warszawa 3-1 in their first leg. The team
from Polish capital must win 3-0 or 3-1 to force a golden set, but Halkbank has a strong record in those situations.
Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia fought back to beat Mint Vero Volley Monza 3-1 in first leg, extending their winning streak to eight matches. With a 9-1 record against Monza, they’re in a strong position to claim the final four ticket!
