Champions League: also Halkbank (after golden set) and Jastrzębski to Final Four!
3 min read
After Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie from Poland, who storm into Champions League Final Four after a double clean win over Germany’s SVG Lüneburg, other two teams claimed 2024/25 CEV Champions League final four tickets.
PGE Projekt Warszawa from Poland too put on a spectacular performance, sweeping Turkish powerhouse Halkbank Ankara 3-0 (25:20, 25:19, 25:20) in their quarterfinal rematch.
However, despite their dominant win, it wasn’t enough to secure a semifinal spot as, after a four sets defeat in first leg, the golden set went Halkbank’s way (12-15), sending the Turkish team into the Final Four.
Projekt Warszawa’s top scorers were Bartłomiej Bołądź and Artur Szalpuk, each collecting 18 points, with Tobias Brand adding 13. Halkbank’s Dick Kooy led his team with 15 points as well as MVP award, followed by Marek Sotola (14) and Yoandy Leal (11).
Halkbank now turns its focus to the semifinals, where they will face an Italian side, either Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia or Mint Vero Volley Monza, with the first one who won the first leg 3-1, and the rematch set for tomorrow, Thursday.
Also Jastrzębski Węgiel, from Poland too, delivered a commanding performance to secure their place in the Final Four, sweeping Olympiacos Piraeus 3-0 (25:21, 25:21, 25:19) in their quarterfinals game.
After a narrow 2-3 loss in the first leg, the Polish champions bounced back in style, dominating in front of their home fans and avoiding the need for a golden set. Anton Brehme, the match’s MVP, played a crucial role in the team’s success with 9 points through 80% in attack and 1 block.
With this victory, an all-Polish semifinal is now set, as JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel will face Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie for a spot in the final!
Łukasz Kaczmarek led the scoring with 15 points, three blocks, and an ace, also boasting a 52% attack efficiency, while Timothée Carle and Tomasz Fornal each contributed 13 points, helping seal the dominant win. Aleksandar Atanasijević was Olympiacos’ top scorer with 12 points.
The Champions League Final Four will take place in Łódź from May 16/18, bringing together the top teams in European volleyball for a battle for the title.
