Italy: Trento down Piacenza in a thrilling 5-Set battle in Game 1 of semifinal

What an amazing night for volleyball fans, above all for fans of Itas Trentino: in second semifinal of 2024/25 SuperLega Credem Banca Playoff Semifinals, they delivered a 3-2 (25:23, 23:25, 25:21, 23:25, 18:16) victory over Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, thrilling over 4,000 fans at a sold-out ilT Quotidiano Arena!
In an emotional rollercoaster, after trading sets and moments of dominance, the showdown went down in a hard-fought fifth-set.
The hosts, down by three points late, 8-11, were able to tie it at 12-12, eventually clinching the match 18-16.
Alessandro Michieletto left the court with 25 points to his name including three aces and three blocks and 51% in attack, but it was a total team effort, as setter Riccardo Sbertoli earned MVP honors, with 5 aces and strong defense.
Piacenza brought the heat too, with Stephen Maar and Efe Mandiraci who scored 44 points in two, with Yuri Romanò who delivered six aces.
However, costly errors in decisive moments cost them a potential Game 1 win.

“What a fight! This was a match full of ups and downs. We put everything we had into it and came out on top. If this is how the series starts, expect a war till the end,” said Riccardo Sbertoli.

“We had our chances, even in the tie-break. But Trentino didn’t give us anything. We must learn and bounce back stronger,” added Ljubo Travica, head coach of Piacenza.
