Poland trampled over Italy 3-0 (25:22, 25:19, 25:14) in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League final in Ningbo, China.
The commanding victory marked their second VNL title after 2023.
Led by head coach Nikola GrbiÄ, the winners jumped into the final tournament without dropping a single set after defeating Japan in the quarterfinals and Brazil in the semifinals, both with clean 3-0 successes, and their final performance against reigning world champions Italy declared that Poland currently dominate world of volleyball.
Wilfredo Leon was decisive, collecting 16 points and dominating from both the serve line and under the net, closely supported by Kamil Semeniuk, who added 14 points with perfect attacks and key serves.
On the other side, Italyâs only double-digit player was Daniele Lavia with 11 points to his name.
Poland outshone Italy in all elements, starting from blocks (10 to 6), limiting their unforced errors (18 to Italyâs 25), and applying pressure in attack and defense throughout the game.
The opening set was tightly contested almost until the end, when Leon and Semeniuk pushed Poland ahead. Italyâs errors in the closing moments sealed the final 25-22.
In second set Poland built a comfortable lead early on, and despite a brief Italian reaction, they keep control with a powerful finishes until the decisive 25-19.
By the third set, Poland was in full command, collecting a massive lead capitalizing on Italian miscommunications and closing the match with clinical precision.
This title adds another chapter to Nikola GrbiÄâs golden era, having guided Poland to VNL victory in 2023 and now again in 2025, despite the heavy absence of Tomasz Fornal.
Earlier, Brazil bounced back in style at the VNL 2025, clinching the bronze medal with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Slovenia (23:25, 25:20, 25:23, 25:19) in the third-place match.
After a semifinal defeat to Poland, they regrouped and delivered a strong performance to secure their second VNL medal after the gold they earned in 2021.
Despite an error-heavy match from both sides, the winnere showed greater composure in the decisive moments of the match led by opposite Alan Souza, who led the charge with 18 points to his name including 52% success rate, one ace, and one block. Middle blocker Matheus Bispo added 11 points, playing a crucial role in Brazilâs dominant net presence with four blocks and one ace.
Rok Mozic was Sloveniaâs standout, scoring a match-high 21 points, but lacked consistent support.
“Thai is a new era for Brazilian volleyball,” said setter Fernando âCachopaâ Kreling. “Weâre rebuilding, and this medal is a huge confidence boost. Itâs only the beginning.”
Sloveniaâs fourth-place finish marks their third time just outside the medals, having ended in the same position in 2021 and 2024.
