Club World Championship 2025: winning debut for Osaka Bluteon, Perugia, Praia Clube and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie

Italian powerhouse Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia began their FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship 2025 campaign with a dominant 3-0 (25:10, 25:14, 25:18) sweep over Libya’s Swehly Sports Club.
Playing at Mangueirinho Arena, Brazil, the Italian side controlled the Pool B match to collect their first three points of the tournament, with Tunisian opposite Wassim Ben Tara who led the charge with 10 points. The rivals, making their tournament debut, were led by Mohamed Garwas with nine points.
The win left Perugia level atop Pool B with Japan’s Osaka Bluteon, who earlier swept defending champions Sada Cruzeiro with a clean 0-3 (14:25, 18:25, 14:25).
Playing the tournament opener on Brazilian soil, Sada Cruzeiro were expected to a different start after winning a record five world titles, all achieved at home, including last year’s triumph. Instead, they were literally destroyed.
The Japanese side controlled the match from start to finish, never allowing the rivals to reach 20 points in any set. Outside hitter Shoma Tomita led the charge with a match-high 19 points, recording an impressive 82% success rate in attack including an ace and four blocks, while Miguel Ángel López added 13 points, and captain Yuji Nishida left the court with 11, including two aces. On the othet side of the net, Douglas Souza was the top scorer with only seven points.
In Group A action, Brazil’s Praia Clube also opened with a straight-sets victory, defeating Al Rayyan SC of Qatar 0-3 (17:25, 21:25, 21:25), with veteran opposite Franco Paese who led the hosts with 17 points to his name.
Meanwhile, Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie from Poland claimed their first win after outlasting Brazil’s Vôlei Renata Campinas in a tense five-set clash, 2-3 (19:25, 27:25, 19:25, 25:20, 14:16).
The victory closed the opening day of competition in dramatic fashion, with Aaron Russell and Bartłomiej Bołądź led the winners attack contributing with 19 points each, while Bartosz Kwolek added 13. The result earned Warta Zawiercie two points in Pool A, placing them second in the standings behind Brazil’s Praia Clube.
For the Vôlei Renata, Adriano Xavier was the most prolific player with 17 points to his name, while middle blocker Judson Nunes and opposite Newton Fernandes added 13 points each.
