6 min read

1/16 Finals of 2025/26 CEV Cup continued today with other 12 verdicts as well as other 12 teams qualified to the next stage of the competition after Dinamo Bucuresti from Romania and Belgium’s Greenyard Maaseik.
After a four sets win in first leg in Greece, Czech Republic’s ČEZ Karlovarsko needed just three sets to prevail over AONS Milon Athens in front of their home fans, 3-0 (25:22, 25:20, 25:18), with 15 points each from Victor Rodriguez Pérez and Renars Jansons.
After a great straight sets win in front of their home fans in France in first leg, Alterna SPVB Poitiers eliminated Greece’s Panathinaikos Athens with a 1-3 (22:25, 25:20, 18:25, 22:25) success on the road, despite 26 points from Rasmus Nielsen (58% in attack with 2 aces and 2 blocks). Kevin Kobrine and Tom Picard scored 28 points in two for the winners, while Thomas Pujol added 11.
All easy for superfavorite polish side JSW Jastrzebski Węgiel, which trampled over MÁV Foxconn Székesfehérvár 3-0 (25:12, 25:18, 25:12) after just 71 minutes of play. The winners overpowered the Hungarian side in all elements, above all in blocking (12 to 3) and attack (64% of team efficiency to just 34%), with 13 points each from Łukasz Kaczmarek and Michał Gierzot.
No problems not even for Turkish side Fenerbahçe Medicana Istanbul, who needed only 62 minutes of play to prevail over Radnicki Kragujevic from Serbia, 3-0 (25:14, 25:15, 25:13), with 10 points from newcomer Luka Marttila, who started the season in Italy with the jersey of Vero Volley Monza. The only player in double digit of the match, he left the court with 1 ace, 1 block and 67% in attack.
After winning first leg in four sets, Italian side Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza suffered a defeat with the same score in Czech Republic on the field of Jihostroj České Budejovice, 3-1 (26:24, 18:25, 25:17, 25:22), however they were able to win decisive Golden Set with the score of 17-19, with 20 points from Alessandro Bovolenta, 18 from José Gutierrez and 17 from Lukas Bergmann.
Another team qualified to 1/8 Finals via Golden Set is Akaa Volley, after eliminating Austria’s SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, rebounding from a straight sets defeat in Finland in first leg. Antti Ropponen led the charge with 22 points against an unrecognizable rival compared to first leg game on the road.
Also Romania’s CSM Corona Brasov claimed their 1/8 finals winning Golden Set 15-12 against Volley Schönenwerd, 3-0 (25:20, 25:19, 25:21), after taking revenge from four sets defeat in first leg in Switzerland. 14 winning blocks proved decisive in a almost one-sided game played at Sports Hall Dumitru Popescu Colibasi.
Also Schönenwerd’s compatriots Volley Amriswil have been eliminated at Golden Set (10-15) by Orion Stars Doetinchem from The Netherlands, after a 3-0 (27:25, 28:26, 25:23) hard-fought battle and a four sets defeat in first leg.
OK Alpacem Kanal from Slovenia down MOK Mursa Osijek by 3-1 (26:24, 22:25, 25:21, 25:14) and, as they lose their first leg in Croazia at tie break, they’ll progress to 1/8 finals, despite 26 points from Leo Andrić (56% in attack and 3 aces).
Despite a defeat at tie break in The Netherlands against Draisma Dynamo Apeldoorn, 3-2 (16:25, 24:26, 26:24, 25:12, 16:14), having won first leg in straight sets, also Olympiacos Piraeus claimed their ticket for the next stage of the competition, also collecting as many as 17 winning blocks in this game!
Belgium’s Tectum Achel repeated themselves after a clean 3-0 sweep in Austria in first leg winning again over TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg 3-0 (25:19, 25:18, 25:23), with 21 points from Jippe Schroeven, while the last game played today, between Germany’s VfB Friedrichshafen and Levski Sofia, ended with the score of 1-3 (17:25, 22:25, 25:21, 23:25) in favor of the visiting side, have been solved at Golden Set too. First leg in Bulgaria ended in just three sets in favor of the Germans, and now they qualified to 1/8 Finals after a 15-13 win in decisive set, despite 24 points from Gordan Lyutskanov. For the winners, Jonas Van Huizen was the most prolific player with 19 points, closely followed by Kyle Hobus and Parker Van Buren, who added 18 and 17, respectively.
