Italy: Round 19 completed – Civitanova sweep Verona on the road. Perugia, Trento, Modena and Piacenza ok
4 min read
After the advance played yesterday, in which Vero Volley Monza sweep Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina in straight sets, Round 19 of 2025/26 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 8, of second leg, has been completed today with all remaining games, delivering clear signals at both ends of the table.
Cucine Lube Civitanova stole the spotlight by sweeping most favorite Rana Verona in just three sets, 0-3 (25:27, 21:25, 17:25), on a sold-out court, confirming their strong momentum away from home. Aleksandar Nikolov and Erik Loeppky led the charge with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Civitanova’s win was well-deserved, as they controlled the game throughout and never allowed Verona to find rhythm.
Meanwhile, league leaders Sir Susa Scai Perugia down Sonepar Padova, grinding out a hard-fought 1-3 (26:28, 19:25, 26:24, 22:25) win that allowed them to stretch their lead to the top of the standings. Perugia’s success, in fact, did not come easily as the world champions were forced into a physical four-set battle but held firm in key moments to secure three valuable points and move five clear of Verona.
At home, the other favorites Itas Trentino, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza, and Valsa Group Modena all delivered convincing victories, closing out a round that reinforced the current balance of power before the Italian Cup break.
The first one also impressed in front of their home fans, overcoming a short scare in the second set before sealing a straight-sets win over newcomers MA Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo, 3-0 (25:16, 26:24, 25:20).
Piacenza and Modena followed a similar script, both keeping control early and maintaining it through disciplined, efficient play.
Piacenza sweep Cisterna Volley 3-0 (25:18, 25:19, 27:25) with 19 points from Alessandro Bovolenta and 13 from Efe Mandiraci, while Modena did the same against Allianz Milano, winning the game also 3-0 (25:18, 26:24, 25:22).
Great volleyball in Italy will continue last week at Bologna’s Unipol Arena for Final Four of DelMonte Coppa Italia!
