CEV Cup: Karlovarsko down Maaseik in a five sets thriller. Poitiers and Fenerbahçe take first step towards quarterfinals!

After the away win of Itay’s Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in Poland, first legs of playoffs of 2025/26 CEV Cup has been completed today with the other three games.
Czech Republic’s ČEZ Karlovarsko prevailed over Greenyard Maaseik from Belgium by 3-2 (21:25, 25:22, 21:25, 25:19, 17:25) in front of their home fans, while France’s Alterna SPVB Poitiers and Fenerbahçe Medicana Istanbul from Türkiye took first step towards semifinals after two four-sets away wins in their respective games.
The first one stun German powerhouse VfB Friedrichshafen by beating them
with the score of 1-3 (23:25, 17:25, 25:21, 18:25). Setter Anatole Chaboissant earnd MVP honors, while Kevin Kobrine (59% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block) and Thomas Pujol (53% in attack and 1 block) led the charge with 18 points each, well supported by Lukas Maase, also in double digit with 12 points (69% in attack with 2 aces and 1 block) and Tom Picard, who added 9.
Fenerbahçe did the same in The Netherlands, with a 1-3 (25:18, 21:25, 13:25, 24:26) success over the hosts Orion Stars Doetinchem. After losing first set, Earvin Ngapeth, who even intervened during a break in play to try and calm Fenerbahçe fans who were fighting in the stands during the game, led the charge with 15 points through 64% in attack, 78% positive receptions and 1 ace, well supported by Barthélémy Chinenyeze who added 14 through 75% in attack, 1 ace and 4 blocks.
Interestingly, tensions erupted also yesterday in Belgium in the stands, where Galatasaray fans even detonated a device!
In their respective second legs, both sides needed two sets to progress to quarterfinals!
