European League 2026: all results of first day – perfect start for Czech Republic, The Netherlands, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Spain, Israel and Finland. 2 points for Sweden

2026 CEV Volleyball European League started today with 9 games across Europe.
4 teams closed their respective games in straight sets to sit to the top of the standings: The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Estonia and Latvia.
All easy for The Netherlands, who sweep the hosts North Macedonia 3-0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:21) at Park Strumica with 10 aces and 20 points from Sil Meijs (52% in attack with 2 blocks and 3 aces), well supported by an almost perfect Fabian Plak who added 11 throgh 90% in attack from the middle and 2 aces.
Something similar happened in Hungary, where Czech Republic sweep the home team without major problems, 3-0 (25:12, 25:21, 25:17), with a great team performance in attack and 16 points from Lukas Vasina, 13 from Jiri Benda and 12 from Patrick Indra.
Also Estonia sweep the hosts Slovakia 3-0 (26:24, 28:26, 25:22), but it was a hard-fought game uncertain from start to finish, with MΓ€rt Tammearu, Robert TΓ€ht and Renee Teppan who led their team to the win, while in front of their home fans at Riga’s Komandu Sporta Spelu Halle, Latvia sweep Romania 0-3 (22:25, 21:25, 22:25) with 17 points from Renars Jansons.
3 points also for Israel who, after losing first sets in Osijek, sweep the home team Croatia 3-1 (19:25, 25:20, 25:17, 25:19) with an impressive performance from Shay Liberman, who left the court with 21 points through 66% in attack without errors, 1 block and 1 ace, and Mark Rura, top scorer of the match with 22.

Home defeat also for Austria, who succumbed to Finland also 3-1 (21:25, 25:12, 25:17, 25:16) and after winning first set too, collapsing under an impressive performance in blocking from the rivals, who recorded as many as 21 points from this element at the end of the match (7 only from Miika Haapaniemi).
Four sets wins also for Denmark and Spain. The first one down Portugal 1-3 (17:25, 25:20, 22:25, 19:25) at home, while Spain prevailed over Switzerland 1-3 (25:19, 25:27, 24:26, 22:25) after more than two hours of play at their Pabellon Municipal Jorge Garbajosa Torrejon de Ardoz, led in score by Andres Villena, author of 20 points, although the most prolific player of the match was Cyril Kolb, who tallied 22 on the other side of the net.
The only game ended at tie break was played in Sweeden, between Greece and Sweden, ended 2-3 (25:19, 25:23, 25:27, 18:25, 13:15) in favor of the home team after 134 minutes of play. Axel Enlund led the winners with 21 points, through 59% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks, while Dimitrios Mouchlias poured in 26 for Greece (54% in attack, 3 aces and 1 block), but he wasn’t enough.
