European League 2026: first week completed – home wins for Sweden, Denmark, Slovakia, Latvia, Hungary, Spain, North Macedonia and Croatia. Montenegro ok

First week of 2026 CEV Volleyball European League has been completed today with last 9 games.
At home, all easy for Sweden, who sweep modest Azebaijan with a clean 3-0 (25:14, 25:17, 25:20) after just 77 minutes of play. To made the difference a strong performance in blocking (9 to 1) and a good attack with three players in double digits: Axel Enlund, top scorer of the match with 14 points, Hampus Ekstrand and Jacob Link, who added 11 and 10 respectively, the last one with 1 ace, 1 block and 80% in attack!
Straight sets home win also for Denmark who, in front of their home fans in Odense and with a large turnover, literally destroyed Iceland 3-0 (25:16, 25:12, 25:14) after just 1 hour and 7 minutes, led by Oskar Madsen, the only player in double digit of the match (12 points, 53% in attack, 1 block and 2 aces).
At Arena Poprad, the hosts Slovakia did the same beating a combative Albania, at lest in first two sets, also 3-0 (25:23, 29:27, 25:15), with 19 points from Erik Gulak and 17 by Jakub Ihnat, while at Riga’s Komandu Sporta Spelu Halle, also the home team Latvia close first week with a home straight sets win over Kosovo, 3-0 (25:12, 25:21, 25:13). In a one-sided match, with as many as 14 blocks and 8 aces, the most prolific player was Kristaps Smits, absolute top scorer of the match with 19 points through 65% in attack, 3 blocks and 1 ace.
Meanwhile, in last match played at Messzi Istvan Sportcsarnok in Kecskemét, the hosts Hungary sweep Norway also 3-0 (25:18, 25:22, 25:18), while Spain won yes, also at home and also in straight sets, over Bosnia&Herzegovina, struggling only in first set, 3-0 (27:25, 25:19, 25:13). Jordi Ramon led the charge with 19 points through 65% in attack, 3 aces and 1 block.
Despite the support of home fans at Multiversum in Schwechat, Austria succumbed in four sets against Montenegro, 1-3 (19:25, 25:20, 18:25, 20:25), despite strong performances from Lukas Glatz and Paul Buchegger, who tallied 21 and 18 points respectively. Vukasin Cimbaljevic led the winners with 20 points through 63% in attack, 1 block and 4 of his team’s 8 aces.
Close the picture other two home wins, with North Macedonia who lose first set but eventually prevailed over Luxembourg by 3-1 (23:25, 25:21, 25:20, 25:13) at their Park Strumica with 30 points from an unstoppable Nikola Gjorgiev (61% in attack and 3 of the winners’ 13 winning blocks) and Croatia who trampled over Georgia, 3-0 (25:14, 25:10, 25:20), with a good team performance in attack, 16 points from top scorer Gabrijel Cvanciger (62% in attack, 2 blocks and 1 ace) and 15 from Ante Kulišić (65% in attack, 2 blocks and 2 aces).
