Belgium: Paweł Woicki forced to step down as Greenyard Maaseik Head Coach

Paweł Woicki is no longer the head coach of Greenyard Maaseik.
The 43-year-old Polish coach has been forced to step away from the club for medical reasons, bringing an unexpected end to a successful collaboration that culminated in one of the most important seasons in Maaseik’s recent history.
He informed the club, with great regret, that his current health situation does not allow him to commit responsibly to another season with the team.
Following discussions between the two parties, it was therefore decided to terminate his contract.

Greenyard Maaseik has expressed its full understanding and respect for the decision, making it clear that his health must come first. For now, the club wants to give its coach the peace and time he needs to concentrate entirely on his recovery.
The decision comes after a remarkable campaign.
Under Woicki and his coaching staff, Maaseik reached the Belgian Cup final, advanced to the CEV Cup semi-finals, and then completed the season with its greatest achievement: winning the Belgian national championship for the first time in seven years.

“We obviously regret that we cannot continue our collaboration, but health always comes first,” said Maaseik manager Dieter Leenders in club’s official statement. “We have great respect for Paweł’s decision and are enormously grateful for his commitment, professionalism and contribution to the club.”

He also underlined the significance of what Woicki achieved during his time in Maaseik.

“Together with his staff and players, Paweł gave our club a fantastic season, with a place in the Cup final, a semi-final in the European CEV Cup and, as the highlight, the national title after seven years.”

The club’s appreciation for Woicki goes beyond the trophies and results. His contribution has made him a figure the Maaseik family will not easily forget.

“We wish him, above all, a good recovery and every success for the future,” he added.

For Greenyard Maaseik, meanwhile, a new chapter begins.
The Belgian club has started the search for a new head coach and hopes to announce the person who will take over the position in the near future.
For Paweł Woicki, however, volleyball can wait.
After a season that brought Maaseik back to the top of Belgian volleyball, the priority is now a much more important one: his health and recovery.
