Egypt cruise past Central African Republic as Algeria overcome Kenya in Tunis

The Round of 16 at the CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship continued in Tunis on Sunday, with Egypt and Algeria securing their places in the quarterfinals.
While the defending champions produced an exceptionally quick victory, Algeria had to work through four sets to overcome Kenya.
Egypt required just 58 minutes to complete their 3-0 victory over the Central African Republic, winning 25:8, 25:11 and 25:12.
The result underlined the gap between the reigning continental champions and their opponents, as Egypt moved through the knockout stage without dropping a set. The CAVB report highlighted the speed of the Egyptian victory, which ranks among the most decisive performances of the tournament so far!
For the Central African Republic, the defeat brings their campaign to a close. Egypt, meanwhile, advance to the quarterfinals and remain among the teams competing for the continental title in Tunis.

The second match of the day offered a more competitive contest. Algeria defeated Kenya 3-1 (25:21, 21:25, 25:19, 25:16), recovering after Kenya levelled the match in the second set.
Algeria took the opening set 25-21, but Kenya responded in the second, winning 25-21 to bring the match back to level terms. The Algerian side then regained control, taking the third set 25-19 before closing out the match with a 25-16 fourth set.
Algeria’s performance is a response to the challenge posed by Kenya, who had managed to take a set from their opponents. The victory sends Algeria through to the quarterfinals, while Kenya’s campaign comes to an end. 
With the knockout stage progressing, Egypt and Algeria join the teams already qualified for the next round. The championship in Tunis is now approaching its decisive phase, with the quarterfinal matches set to bring together the remaining contenders for the African crown.
