Round 2 of new 2026/27 Tauron Liga continued today with the clash between PGE GiEK SKRA Bełchatów and PGE Projekt Warszawa, with the hosts claimed one of the standout victories of the round, defeating PGE Projekt Warszawa 3-2 (25:17, 25:22, 15:25, 23:25, 15:12) at Hala Energia on Saturday.
The hosts looked firmly in control after winning the opening two sets. Bełchatów imposed their game from the start, putting pressure on Warszawa with their serve and making the most of their opportunities at the net. They took the first set 25-17, then held on to win the second 25-22 despite a late challenge from the visitors.
The team from country’s capital, however, refused to surrender, rising their level in the third set, capitalising on Bełchatów’s attacking difficulties to cruise to a 25-15 win. The visitors then carried that momentum into a much tighter fourth set, edging it 25-23 to force a deciding tie-break.
With the match hanging in the balance, Bełchatów found their rhythm again. The home side applied renewed pressure from the service line and at the net, eventually pulling away to secure the fifth set 15-12 and claim two points from a match that had threatened to slip away.
Alan Souza was named MVP after finishing as Bełchatów’s top scorer with 22 points to his name, while middle blocker Michał Szalacha also played a key role, particularly in the opening stages, and Zouheir El Graoui contributed eight points.
For Warszawa, Bartosz Gomułka and Brandon Koppers helped turn the match around after coming off the bench, while the visitors’ middle blockers became increasingly influential during their comeback.
The match statistics underline how closely contested the encounter was. Bełchatów scored 103 points overall to Warszawa’s 101, despite losing the third and fourth sets. The hosts also led in service aces, 8-5, while Warszawa held the advantage in attack points, 56-49. Bełchatów’s ability to deliver at crucial moments ultimately proved decisive.
Both teams had begun the season with victories: Bełchatów defeated Energa Trefl Gdańsk 3-1, while Warszawa overcame Indykpol AZS Olsztyn by the same score. This result therefore gives Bełchatów a second consecutive win and reinforces their early-season momentum, while today’s rivals will take encouragement from their recovery after falling two sets behind, even if their comeback ultimately fell short.
Roubd 2 will close tomorrow with the clash between Podziemia Kredowe ChKS Chełm and Asseco Resovia Rzeszów.
