Wilfredo León could be heading to Turkey after the current season, with Halkbank Ankara reportedly preparing a major investment to bring the Polish international to the club coached by Radostin Stoychev. But there is a crucial question surrounding the potential transfer: is the agreement still being negotiated, or has León already put pen to paper?
According to our local sources, the contract has already been signed.
This information reached us following the tournament in Jesi, which concluded on October 11. At the time, we chose not to publish the news because we lacked independent confirmation. Also according to Stoychev himself, there isn’t a definitive answer confirming or denying the agreement.
Developments over the following days have made the story increasingly difficult to ignore. The terms reportedly agreed between the player and the Ankara club include a one-year contract for the 2027/28 season, with an option to extend. The financial package is said to be worth €1.5 million net per season, with additional bonuses of between €50,000 and €150,000 for winning trophies. If those figures are accurate, Halkbank would be offering one of the most lucrative contracts in men’s volleyball.
For León, 33, the move would represent a significant change after his spell with Bogdanka LUK Lublin, where he has become one of the leading figures in Polish volleyball. His current contract expires at the end of this season, leaving the door open for a move abroad in 2027. The Turkish offer would reportedly represent a substantial increase on his current earnings, making it an opportunity that would be difficult to dismiss.
León has not publicly confirmed that he will leave Lublin.
When asked about the speculation on October 22, he acknowledged that offers were coming in but indicated that discussions were still taking place.
His manager, Paulina Wójtowicz, has also described the interest in her client as consistent with his sporting and commercial value. Neither statement, however, establishes whether an agreement has already been signed.
Halkbank’s interest also makes sense from a sporting perspective.
Under Stoytchev, the Ankara club is seeking to compete at the highest level in Turkey and Europe. The presence of experienced outside hitter Matey Kaziyski, Bulgarian international Denislav Bardarov, Brazilian opposite Darlan Souza and experienced setter Murat Yenipazar would give León familiar connections within a squad that could become even more ambitious with his arrival. Adding a player of his calibre would significantly strengthen Halkbank’s attacking options and raise expectations around its European campaign.
The potential move could also have implications for León’s international ambitions.
With the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games approaching, managing his workload and maintaining his physical condition will be important considerations. A change of championship could offer a different competitive environment, although there is no guarantee that moving to Turkey would automatically mean a lighter schedule.
Meanwhile, León continues to deliver on the court for Bogdanka LUK Lublin.
In the Polish Supercup final on October 25, Lublin defeated Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie 3–0, winning the sets 34:32, 25:20 and 25:18. León scored 16 points and finished the match with an ace, helping his team secure another trophy while uncertainty about his future continues to grow.
For now, the distinction between a reported agreement and an officially confirmed transfer remains essential.
Publicly available information points to advanced negotiations and a substantial financial offer, while our local sources indicate that the contract may already have been signed. Until the clubs or the player confirm the move, the final status remains unverified.
One thing is certain: if the deal goes through, Halkbank would secure one of the biggest names in world volleyball, and the Turkish league would land a major transfer ahead of the 2027/28 season.
The question is no longer simply whether Ankara wants León, but whether the agreement is already done.
