Just like last year, in Champions League final Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will face Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia!
The Polish champions came out on top in the second semifinal of the day at the Inalpi Arena in Turin, beating 3-1 (25:19, 24:26, 25:19, 25:19) Ziraat Bankkart Ankara and will now face the defending champions tomorrow, at 8.30pm. Zawiercie will be hoping to take a revenge for last years’ tie break defeat and claim the first European title in the club’s history!
The semifinal clash between last year’s runners-up and Ziraat started with both teams struggling to find their rhythm early on, particularly from the service line with several errors on both sides. Zawiercie, however, soon entered into the match and began to take control thanks to strong work in blocking and attack, and two blocks from Jurij Gladyr helped them move ahead 9-5.
Step by step, Ankara managed to reduce the gap to 11-8, mostly thanks to Dutch bomber Nimir Abdel-Aziz, who scored 5 points in the opening set, even if his team struggled to contain the rivals’ attack. Aaron Russell led the charge with 5 points, while Bartosz Kwolek added 3 as the Polish champions stretched their advantage to 20-15. An ace from setter Miguel Tavares is worth the 22-16 before Russell closed the set with the point of 25-19.
IN PROGRESS, more to follow!
