3 min readClear victory of Estonian team today (25-21, 25-22, 25-21) against hosts of Czech Republic in the gold medal match of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Golden European League Men in KV Arena of Karlovy Vary. Both team will reach hosts Portugal in the inaugural FIVB Challenger Cup of next week, and eventual winners of this new competition will get the right to partecipate to the 2019 edition of the elite FIVB Volleyball Nations League. In the other match, Turkey won 3-2 (25-16, 21-25, 25-14, 22-25, 15-11) against Portugal and claimed their third European League medal of history after a silver and another bronze respectively in 2012 and 2010 editions. For Estonia itâs the second European League after their gold medal in 2016 in Varna, Bulgaria. Czech Republic started well the final match, but for the visitors is fast to catch up, before 5:7 and after 12:15. Also today, Michal Finger played a great match, and Czech Republic try to pull ahead, but Estonia won the first set, with really too much mistakes of hosts and Renee Teppan who scored alone seven points in this set. Estonian blockers Aganits and Tammemaa have done respectively 2 and 3 blocks.
In the second set, Estonia claimed the lead in all the early stage. The hosts fought back, and all the set was balanced until 19-19, but Estonia toke an advantage on 23-20. Were not enough for the Czech great spikes of Michal Finger and the entry of Adam BartoĹĄ who had replaced Petr Michalek. Oliver Venno closed the set at 22-25 for Estonia, at the end deservedly rewarded on the top players. The beginning of the third set was very balanced, and Estonia started to conquered the advantage from 11-13, Czech Republic try to reduce the difference on the score, but Estonia regained a three decisive points advantage at 20-17, adavantage that they maintained until the end, and even though two match balls cancelled, a ball served out decreed the end of the match. The best scorer of the match was Michal Finger from Czech Republic with 18 points and 48% attack. For Estonia, the top scorers (and in my opininion the mvp) was Oliver Venno with14 points and 54% attack following by Renee Teppan with 13 points and 57%. In the end Czech Republic fought for every ball, even though Estonia was better, and deservedly won, and during all this competions, lost only one match. Today, Estonian Tammemaa made 12 points,with 5 blocks, 2 aces and only one error!
