#Turkey: recap of Round 21

2 min read

The penultimate round of Efelerligi was played.
What a comeback for Fenerbahce against Galatasaray: Arkas Izmir takes advantage and blinds the second place in the standings.
In the most heated of the Istanbul derby, and big match of the round, Fenerbahce beat Galatasaray at tie-break after an incredible comeback, first from 0-2 in the set and then from 19-23 in the 4th set (then won 26-24). After the arrival of new coach Sordyl and especially the Cuban Hidalgo (51% in attack and 4 aces) Fenerbahce seems to have changed pace.
This result is very good for Arkas Izmir that has overwhelmed Maliye (always decimated by the absences of Wendt and Yucel even if he has actually see the field for some points) and take so the 2nd place in regular season.
The leaders Halkbank Ankara, already mathematically first in the standings, has granted a little turnover (rest for Sket and Gunes, and the re-entrant Subasi has been deployed in the unusual role of libero), but in the end however beat 3-2 Tokat thanks to the 32 points of Luburic.
In the queue Arhavi takes the 3 points against Jeopark Kula, but earns nothing on direct competitors for the salvation: Inegol Bursa won 3-1 against Ziraat Bankasi Ankara and Afyon beats the Istanbul BBSK with the same score.
