Lube Civitanova destroy Skra in front of 10,000 fans at Atlas Arena: italian team have earned a clear 3-0 victory over the Polish champions PGE Skra Belchatow to make a big step toward the CEV Champions League super final in Berlin.
In the first leg match between these two teams, Lube Civitanova simply didn’t allow the rival to do anything.
The hosts have a reaction in the third set, but it was not enough for winning it and extending the game. Tsvetan Sokolov and Yoandy Leal led Lube to victory, and they scored 13 points each, while Osmany Juantorena added 12. The setter Bruno Rezende was awarded MVP of the match.
On the other side, Mariusz Wlazly and Milad Ebadipour scored 10 points each.
Roberto Piazza, head coach of PGE Skra Belchatow: “The last set showed that we can fight. It was a set with a game that we should present. In the first set we were not able to receive the ball and we made a lot of stupid mistakes. Maybe something remained in our heads from the last game against Jastrzębski WEGIEL, but in the second set again we were in the game again and in the end we were only two points behind. It was 20-22, but the rivals made the sideout and scored two more points. Mistakes are part of the game. The last set was normal in our performance – the way I know my team. We fought for every ball and we were very close to win. One action could make that we would have won this set. We have to prepare our heads for the rematch and be such a team as in the third set, not the first two.”
Bruno Rezende, setter of Cucine Lube Civitanova: “We played a very good match. In the first set we served very well, we played aggressively. That’s why PGE Skra had some problems. We scored many points then. It was a really amazing set in our performance. We started the second game equally well, but PGE Skra took pressure on the serve and we had some problems. However, we continued the match with calm and won. The third set is the match we expected, because PGE Skra is a great team. They recieved better and Grzegorz Łomacz had more options to set. Our block had many more problems. We knew that for PGE Skra it was already a set of everything, so we continued our game calmly. Now we need to rest for a moment and focus on the Italian Champinonship. Rematch? We have to enter the game with the same concentration, energy and aggressiveness as on Wednesday. We want to win and advance to the final in Berlin, but for this we need maximum concentration. There is always a great atmosphere in Poland. We did not know how many people could come to this match, and again Atlas Arena was full. Poland is probably the best country to play volleyball and I love to be here“.
