According to Radiohc.cu, Simon Robertlandy, Raydel Hierrezuelo and Michael Sanchez have agreed to return to the Cuban National Team. These three volleyball stars had a meeting with the officials of the Cuban Volleyball Federation and all sides determined the terms and came to an agreement.
In December 2018, it was reported that the Ministry of Sports of Cuba officially allowed athletes who had left the country and did not change citizenship to return to the national team. The ban on this has been in effect for more than 20 years.
However, some players won’t be able to return to the Cuban National Team under any circumstances: former player of Zenith Kazan Wilfredo Leon, who changed his citizenship to Polish, will not be able to play for Cuba, as well as Osmany Juantorena (now naturalized italian) or the more recent Yoandy Leal (Brazil).
To reach an agreement would be something historic for Cuban volleyball, and If it will reached, the famed trio could return for the Pre-Olympics in Russia (August 9 to 11), in which Cuban volleyball will compete against the hosts, Iran and Mexico, in search of the longed for Olympic ticket for Tokyo 2020.
