Tuomas Sammelvuo takes over bench of Zenit Saint Petersburg

1 min read

The 2018/19 Russian Volleyball Championship playoff semifinalists Zenit Saint-Petersburg confirmed the rumor from a month ago: the new head coach is the Finnish Tuomas Sammelvuo.
So, Zenit hired a coach that was involved in their elimination from the playoff semifinals last season. Sammelvuo went all the way with Kuzbass Kemerovo, winning the first-ever national championship for the Siberian club.
This summer was very successful for the Finnish coach as he led Russia National Team to the gold medal in the FIVB Nations League and winning international qualifiers to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Some Russian media speculate that Gheorghe Crețu will take over Kuzbass bench. Last season, the Romanian expert coached Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, in Poland.
