Germany is the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2019 CEV European Volleyball Championship.
Vice-champions outplayed co-hosts the Netherlands in four sets in front of the packed stand at the Omnisport hall in Apeldoorn (3,200 spectators). 25:17, 25:22, 30:32, 25:23. Thus, Germany prevented the Netherlands to qualify for the top 8 even after 10 years.
Germany have finally had their star player GyΓΆrgy Grozer at his best: the opposite struggled with a calf injury in the pool stage, and today he scored 20 points for his team, while Tobias Krick made 5 winning blocks and 83% attack (10/12). Nimir Abdel-Aziz was once again the best in the Netherlands with 29 points and he could not prevent a 3-1 loss for his team.
Germany will play in the quarterfinal (Monday night, 20:00, Apeldoorn) against the winner of Poland β Spain.
