Egypt made a great upset by beating Iran on Day 2 of the 2019 FIVB World Volleyball Cup in Japan! They have a perfect record after two rounds of World Cup. After winning their opening match against Australia in four sets, Egypt repeated the same result against Iran, in Nagano. Despite losing the first set, they managed to turn the course of the match into their favor beating the reigning Asian champions, who came to the event in Japan with the strongest possible team (except Seyed Mousavi, injured), partially 22:25, 26:24, 25:18 and 26:24. This victory puts the African team just behind Brazil and Poland in the standings as they all have a maximum of 6 points. The captain of Brazil got a cut below his right eye but returned in the second set with a bandage in place.
