Poland: Skra Bełchatów sweep Asseco Resovia, Warszawa down ZAKSA in repeat of last season’s play-off finals
In an advanced match of Round 12, which was the “klasyk“ of the PlusLiga, PGE Skra Bełchatów relatively easy swept Asseco Resovia Rzeszów at home: 3-0 (25:19, 25:23, 25:21). These two teams have met 56 times prior to this match, providing fans unforgettable battles for trophies in the last decade. Belchatow improved their record to 5-1, while Resovia continued their poor campaign in 2019/20 season, which consists of only two wins and five defeats. The losing side played the match without two starters, with Marcin Możdżonek who has been sidelined for a while and Zbigniew Bartman who missed out his first match in the season. Iranian Milad Ebadipour was the top scorer for the winners with 15 points which were as many points as the Frenchman Nicolas Maréchal put down for Resovia.
One more advanced match has been played yesterday but it was valid for Round 13. It was also a big match, in which champions Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle hosted vice-champions Warszawa with both teams entering the match as undefeated (5-0 each). The team from the Polish capital, that from now competes with another new name (VERVA Warszawa ORLEN Paliwa, instead of PROJEKT), downed ZAKSA at the tie-break mostly thanks to Bartosz Kwolek’s 24 points. Aleksander Śliwka made 22 on the other side.
