Galatasaray HDI Sigorta have returned to the top of the standings of the 2019/20 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi regular season: they recovered from losing to Ziraat Bankası five days ago, by which their six-game unbeaten run came to an end, and defeated Spor Toto in the big match of Round 8. Galatasaray beat former leaders in the standings, who remained without their top scorer Daudi Okello (moved to play in South Korea), in straight sets: 3-0 (25:16, 25:23, 25:20). Estonian Oliver Venno was absolutely MVP of the match, scoring 26 points for Galatasaray, of which 6 points came from the service, while he had a 71% attack (20/28)! Ali Deniz Yılmaz scored 11 points for Spor Toto. Galatasaray took over the provisional lead in the standings with a 7-1 score and 20 points. In order to stay there until the next round, they will need a defeat of Ziraat Bankası to Bursa Büyükşehir Belediyesi in the match tomorrow.
The second-placed Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta (with a 7-1 score and 20 points) extended their winning streak to four games, while Halkbank recorded their third successive victory but still hold the place not suitable for such a powerhouse. They came in sixth with 4-4 and 13 points.
