Champions League: surprising win of České Budějovice against Fenerbahçe!
2 min read
Jihostroj České Budějovice recorded the first victory of any of the Czech teams in the CEV Volleyball Champions League match after almost five years!
The reigning Czech champions were trailing by 2-1 in sets against Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta Istanbul on the road, but they finally defeated Turkish titleholders in the tie-break: 3-2 (25:20, 21:25, 17:25, 25:21, 15:12).
Filip Křesťan and Petr Michálek were top scorers for the winners with 19 points each, with the latter making 5 of his team’s 18 winning blocks. The Dutchman Wouter Ter Maat scored 22 points on the other side.
The last Czech team that wrote down success in the most elite club competition in Europe was exactly České Budějovice, who beat Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam Innsbruck from Austria in January 2015!
