The national teams of Qatar, Iran, and hosts China have qualified for the semifinals of the 2020 Asian Volleyball Olympic Qualifier in Jiangmen, China, one round before the end of the pool stage.
In details, Qatar stunned Australia in 3 sets in the Pool B match valid for Round 2, partially 25:15, 25:21, and 25:23. With this victory, the 2nd in a row, the Qatari team assured their advancement to the semifinals, and they will meet South Korea at the end of the pool stage, tomorrow, to have the chance to seal the top spot in the pool and schedule the semifinal duel with the 2nd placed side in Pool A. Brazilian-born Geraldo Filho was the top scorer for the winners with 14 points, while Belal Nabel Abunabot made 5 winning blocks.
In the same pool, South Korea triumphed over India (3-0) to keep their semifinal hopes alive. They will have to take 2 sets in the last round against Qatar to reach the semis. Any other outcome would push Australia to the knockout stage, under the assumption they beat India.

In Pool A, Iran struggled in the opening set against Kazakhstan but take comfortably through the next 2 sets to book a ticket for the semis. China had many difficulties to break the resistance of Chinese Taipei but managed to secure a semifinal berth with a five sets’ victory.
