Yesterday was an evening of surprise results in the French Ligue A Round 24. The leaders of Tours, despite the good debut of Joao Rafael (16 points for the Brazilian outside hitter), was in fact defeated at home 2-3 by Poitiers after being ahead 2-0. The Moroccan El Graoui was decisive with 29 points, 53% in attack, 2 kill blocks and 4 aces of 11 in total for his team (against the only 5 for Tours).
Another improbable comeback from 0-2 was the one, perfectly successful, by Tourcoing against Chaumont. Led by Jimenez (top scorer of the match with 21 points), the winners came from 6 consecutive defeats in a row.
In the big match of the Round, Montpellier defeated Rennes in four sets, avenging the double 0-3 suffered in the quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup. Sclater (top scorer of the match with 19 points) and Panou (13 points and 57% in attack) were the protagonists of the success which is worth the second place in the standings, just one point from Tours! Not a good match of Rafael Araujo among the guests: only 9 points for him in this match.
The picture was closed by the four sets home victory of Cannes vs. Narbonne, and Paris vs. the already relegated Nice, 3 points that considerably feed the chances of the playoffs of both teams. (Photogallery of Cannes-Narbonne here).
