Belgium: Two national team members form new middle blocker duo in Maaseik
The 16-time Belgian Volleyball Championship winners, Greenyard Maaseik, signed an interesting middle blocker duo.
As we already know, Pieter Verhees has returned to Maaseik after eight years. The 30-year-old Belgium National Team won the triple crown during his last stay at the club in his home country (national championship, cup, and super cup). After that, he embarked on an adventure in Italy where he spent the six straight seasons during which he won the cup with Leo Shoes Modena 2014/15, and was named Best Middle Blocker of the league in 2017, wearing the jersey of Vero Volley Monza. Thus he completed his international adventure, for now, in the Polish Plusliga with Aluron Virtu CMC Zawiercie, last season.
In addition to Verhees (in photo), Maaseik engaged the Iran National Team member Amirhossein Esfandiar. The 21-year-old player, who plays as outside hitter, came to Maaseik from Kalleh Mazandaran and will join his compatriot Javad Karimi.
