China: Quarterfinals begins – Henan end Jiangsu’s perfect record!

The 2019/20 Chinese volleyball Championship has officially moved on to the quarterfinal stage.
The results of yesterday’s Round 3 of the regular season determined which eight teams booked tickets for the next stage of the 2019/20 Super League, the quarterfinals, that consists of two pools of four. Out of those teams, four moved on there with perfect records.
However, not all kept it….

Jiangsu were stunned by Henan after a thrilling five-sets-match (23:25, 25:18, 28:26, 14:25, 16:14) in the opening round of the quarterfinals. Cui Jianjun was the top scorer for the winners with 25 points, while Li Yuanbo added 5 winning blocks. The reigning champions Shanghai, as well as Zhejiang and Shandong, remained perfect.

Shangai – Sichuan 3-1 (20:25, 25:18, 25:19, 25:16)
Henan – Jiangsu 3-2 (23:25, 25:18, 28:26, 14:25, 16:14)
Zehjiang – Fujian 3-1 (25:17, 25:12, 34:36, 25:21)
Beijing – Shandong 0-3 (25:27, 20:25, 25:27)

Formula: 1st phase (January 19, and August 20/22) with 13 teams divided into 4 pools. The best 2 teams from each pool qualify for the quarter-finals. Semi-finals on August 29. Final 1st-2nd place best-of-3 games (August 31, September 1, September 2).
