Italian Cup: Monza wins the derby against Milano, Verona and Piacenza winless, Ravenna and Padova qualified
The advance of the third day of POOL A, valid for the 1/8 finals of Del Monte® Coppa Italia, ended with the victory of Vero Volley Monza, which defeated Allianz Milano in five sets.
The match, staged behind closed doors at the FIPAV Pavesi Center in Milan, rewarded the performance of the opponents, who won in 5 sets in the Lombard derby. Both teams, even before this match, had taken off the pass for the Quarterfinals (scheduled in a single game on Thursday 26 November), and both closed the Pool both at 7 points (with Monza in first place due to one more victory). With the qualification already in their pockets, the two teams gave space to the second lines throughout the match: Coach Piazza, for Milano, lined up the setter Daldello diagonally with Patry (later replaced by Weber, in his first official match with Milano), Basic and Maar outside-hitters, the young Mosca middle-blocker together with Kozamernik, and the libero was Staforini, born in 2003 and the youngest player ever in the 2020/21 italian Superlega.
Fabio Soli instead responded with Orduna-Lagumdzija, Dzavoronok-Sedlacek, Holt-Beretta with Federici libero.
With the exception of the first set, dominated by the hosts, and finished 13:25, the match was an endless battle, which ended 16:18 in the tie break. Sedlacek, awarded MVP of the match, was the top scorer with 25 points, while Weber scored 15 for Milano. LOOK AT PHOTOGALLERY OF THE MATCH!
On the same Pool, Verona ended this part of competition without victories. Despite they struggled, the match against Vibo Valentia ended 0-3. Drame Neto, MVP of the match, scored 13 points for the winner, the same number of points of Kaziyski on the other side.
