Austria: Weiz defeats favorite Ried at tie break!
VBC TLC Weiz won the opening game of the Round 4 of DenizBank AG VL against leader UVC Weberzeile Ried in 128 minutes at tie break 3:2, partially 25:23, 11:25, 17:25, 25:20, 15:13. For the favorites, it was the first defeat in the third games, while for Weiz the second victory.
About the match, Ried started well and took a 5-1 advantage. But then Weiz started play better and better: they won in fact a very balanced first sets, ended 25:23. The second set was so quickly and Ried was dominant in the third too, where the home team lost its middle-blocker Schober for an injury. In any case, the guests succeeded in putting Weiz under pressure, especially through their strong service.
The hosts, however, filled with a lot of fighting spirit, they managed to win the fourth partial, and tie break was amazing, until 13:13 when, after 128 exciting minutes, Weiz put down the last ball.
Jakob Grasserbauer with 17 points and Michael Pekar with 16 were the top scorers for the winners, while Markus Berger and Tomasz Rutecki tallied 16 each on the other side of the net.
