Mevza: first victory for SK Zadruga AICH/DOB
SK Zadruga AICH/DOB take first win in MEVZA League against UVC Holding Graz in an Austrian derby played on Saturday evening. Even though head coach Matjaz Hafner could not count on a full roster, his team needed just 69 minutes to celebrate a straight-set success (25:22, 25:17, 25:19).
A week ago, AICH/DOB suffered a very disappointing defeat at home against Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel in their season opener and now the team from Carinthia is back on track and moved up to third place in the current table, while UVC Holding Graz have not been able to collect a single point from the three matches they have contested so far.
“It was not an easy game. Due to injury problems, we had to make some changes to the line-up. As a result, our players needed some time to find the rhythm of the game. In the second and third set especially, we delivered a strong performance. Of course, we are satisfied with the result, but we are still looking for one or the other new player. Anyway, it was very important to claim our first win this MEVZA League season,” SK Zadruga AICH/DOB’s sports director Martin Micheu said.
Brazilian AICH/DOB player Victor Hugo Miranda de Alcantara was the top scorer of the match with 16 points, including two aces and a winning block, while Portuguese Tiago Pereira scored 15 for the away side.
There are no more matches scheduled for this weekend following the postponement of the duel between austrian Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel and the defending champions ACH Volley Ljubljana due to some COVID-19 cases among the Slovenians.
