With four matches postponed due to COVID or alleged COVID among several teams and/or staff members, two matches from Round 6 of the French Ligue A (of the 3 scheduled) were played today.
In the afternoon match, Toulouse beat Ajaccio on their home soil after a dramatic five-sets-duel.
The guests, after wasting a 1-2 lead, suffered their sixth defeat in as many games. The 9 winning blocks and the performances of Ivan Kolev and Ramon Martinez, who scored 21 points respectively with 53% and 59% in attack, were not enough. Dutch outside-hitter Gijs Jorna was the top scorers among the winners with 18 points and 64% in attack.
In the evening match, another tie break was played, with Cannes who won away against Nantes. For the hosts, this is the fifth defeat in six games, despite the stellar performance of Czech outside-hitter Adam Bartoš, who scored 23 points, 71% in attack, including 1 block and 1 ace, and Slovakian opposite Peter Michalovic, who scored the same number of points but with 45% in attack. Yet Cannes, despite the 2-1 disadvantage and the fourth set won in extremis 26:28, managed to be more incisive in the decisive moments of the match, also scoring 12 aces (of which six by Lincoln Williams, 23 points in total and top scorer among the winners, and 3 by the Brazilian setter Danilo Gelinski). Good performance also for the two middle-blockers: Taylor Averill put down 14 points, including 4 winning blocks, while Danijel Koncilja made the same number of blocks and 17 points, including the last one.
