Italy: Milano surrenders to Perugia, Vibo Valentia stun Trentino and Modena wins a battle in Cisterna in recovery matches of Round 8, 9 and 11

The recovery match of Superlega CredemBanca Round 8 for Allianz Milano is a bitter match. On their home soil they found the second defeat in a row (the fourth in the competition), 3-1 (25:21, 20:25, 21:25, 22:25) by the powerhouse Sir Safety Conad Perugia. With the absence of Patry (injured during last Saturday’s match against Piacenza), and an alternative scheme with three outside-hitters, Maar, Basic and Ishikawa, Milano tried to cause problems for the rivals, but without finding the desired outcome. For the guests, on the other hand, last minute recovery for the setter Travica, who started the match on the bench, and then took the field in the second set. Cuban-Polish Wilfredo Leon was the man of the match (also awarded as MVP) with 27 points, while Ishikawa made 16 on e the other side of the net. (Look at photogallery of the match).
Two more recovery matches was played today, valid for Round 9 and Round 11, respectively. Another amazing victory for Vibo Valentia who, in the last 10 days, managed to surpass two giants of Italian volleyball. When it happens once, it can be considered a coincidence but when it happens twice in such a short time, itâs becoming normal: after inflicting a first defeat in the competition to Cucine Lube Civitanova, 10 days ago, they prevailed also over Itas Trentino today: 3-1 (25:18, 22:25, 25:23).
Trentino couldnât do better given they remained without both setters due to coronavirus so the Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz had to take this role, which he last time performed four years ago. Three points, to which they were led in scoring by the Frenchman Thibault Rossard (22 points), in serving by American Torey DeFalco (4 aces), and in blocking by the Frenchman BarthĂŠlĂŠmy Chinenyeze (5), pushed Vibo to third place in the standings, while Trentino are way down at the eighth place.
Close the picture a five-sets-win for Modena (German Moritz Karlitzek 19 points, Daniele Mazzone 5 blocks), who came back after 1-2 on the field of Top Volley Cisterna.
