Italy: in Round 12, Lube back on winning track, Simón makes a collection of aces. Bitter victory also for Piacenza, Grozer ko

The defending champions Lube Civitanova returns to the field and destroys NBV Verona. They do it literally in the fourth set when an extraordinary Simon goes to the service line and scores 6 aces…Civitanova, waiting for Sunday’s match in Perugia, thus returns to the top of the charts, canceling the defeat against Vibo Valentia. With Rychlicki on the bench and Hadrava as starting opposite, Juantorena and Leal (100% in attack in the first set, 20 points in total, 83% attack; 15/18) make the difference. Verona, crushed in the first two sets, reacts only third with Matey Kaziyski who stops the comeback of the hosts. Then the fourth set is all Simon’s: 5 aces and two more half points in a serve that saw him alternating power with short balls that sent rivals’ reception haywire.
On the other match, an uphill victory for Gas Sales Piacenza, which collects three points in the Emilia Romagna derby against Consar Ravenna, but cannot smile because of the injury accused in the third set by the German opposite George Grozer. It was for him the ball of 7:10, but the ball falls to the ground, because the opposite is not there. For him they speak about a sprained right ankle. Ravenna, after winning the first set, melts just when the rival’s opposite comes out. Piacenza thus flies to 18 points in the standings while Ravenna remains at 6 points. For the winners good performance for Russell, named MVP of the match and author of 19 points. Special mention also for Botto who took over from Grozer and he was good at putting decisive balls on the ground. Ok also middle-blocker Polo, with 11 points and 71% in attack and Mousavi in his SuperLega debut with 3 blocks and 80% in attack.
